Did you know that white corsages are worn only if your mother has passed away, or yellow if she is sick?

Colors always had their archetypal meanings, which again varied widely across places and cultures. Which is hailed as a holy color in one community may be considered utterly evil by another. Here I’m writing mainly about the Mother’s Day corsage colors used in the United States, and in some parts of the Indian subcontinent. Traditional meanings of Mother’s Day corsage colors


Pink corsages go very nicely with the Mother’s Day for two reasons. Pink is typically seen as the color of youth, warmth, love and care. Perhaps that is why, many people often consider pink as the thematic color of the Mother’s Day. Secondly, pink and reddish flowers are the most common ones to find. If you are going to make Mother’s Day corsages at home, you won’t have a tough time looking for suitable flowers!

Also, we must remember, Anna Jarvis originally selected pink carnations as symbols for Mother’s Day!


Red corsages for Mother’s day indicate your mother is alive and healthy. Red is often interpreted as the color of the life, the color of vigour or vitality. Red also stands for love and warmth. Initially, as the tradition of wearing flower corsages in Mother’s Day has come down the history lane, red corsages indicated your mother is alive, and white corsages would have mourned her death. The white corsage still means the decease of your mother. In case of your mother is living in her full health, red is the traditional color but people do use other colors these days too.

White corsages for Mother’s Day are usually used when someone’s mother has passed away. White is the archetypal color of peace and tranquil dignity, so you should wear a white corsage if your mother is deceased.

Yellow corsages are usually used only when your mother is sick.

Remember, wrong colors can really make things awkward. If you are buying your mother a corsage, or are making Mother’s Day corsages at home, make sure you chose the right color!
